Updated August 23, 2007 Finding a job in the nonprofit sector requires a variety of strategies, including having a clear idea of what you want to do next so your search has sufficient focus; using your personal network of friends, colleagues, friends of friends, and colleagues of colleagues to identify organizations and openings that are worth investigating; and yes, reading the want ads, which now are primarily online via websites that list actual openings. Some of the best candidates for searches I’ve conducted have come to me via ads I’ve placed in periodicals or posted on websites. The following websites specialize in openings in the nonprofit world:
You should also not overlook daily newspapers and their online editions, such as http://www.WashingtonPost.com, which typically includes several ads for associations and other nonprofits under Professional Opportunities in the Sunday business section. If you know of other good sources that should be added to this list, please send an email to Larry@SlesingerManagement.com. Thank you, and good luck.
