About the Author

Larry Slesinger, the author of Search, is founder and CEO of Slesinger Management Services, a firm that provides executive search and other management services to nonprofit organizations. His work draws on his own experience as a senior manager of nonprofits, including playing a major role creating and building BoardSource (formerly called the National Center for Nonprofit Boards) in Washington, DC.

Since creating his firm in 1998, Mr. Slesinger has completed numerous searches for foundations, associations, and other nonprofit organizations, primarily in the Washington area. Most searches have been for chief executive officer, chief operating officer, chief financial and administrative officer, and other senior staff positions. An up-to-date list is available on his website at www.SlesingerManagement.com.

Prior to launching his firm, Mr. Slesinger served as special assistant to the president of the Inter-American Foundation, program officer of the John and Mary R. Markle Foundation, vice president of BoardSource (then called the National Center for Nonprofit Boards), and vice president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Mr. Slesinger is the author of Self-Assessment for Nonprofit Governing Boards and co-author of the first edition of A Snapshot of America's Nonprofit Boards: Results of a National Survey, both published by BoardSource. He has also written articles on the job search process; they are posted on his website.

Mr. Slesinger is a member of the Career Services Advisory Council of the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives (GWSAE) and a former member of GWSAE's Compensation and Benefits Survey Advisory Council. He is also a former member of the selection committee of the Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management, administered by the Washington Council of Agencies, and a former governing board member of the International Development Conference and IONA Senior Services.

Mr. Slesinger has a bachelor's degree from Carleton College and an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He and his family live in Bethesda, Maryland. He can be contacted via his website, www.SlesingerManagement.com.
